For over 900 years Cistercians have worked to provide for not only their daily bread, but to provide for the needs of others as well. After the modest expenses of the monastery are met, the remaining funds from our various income projects are used for charitable works in our communities and around the world. LaserMonks is the primary source of income for the monks and for our charitable works.
The monks assist others not only through direct funding, but also through initiation, management and guidance of projects aimed at specific goals. It is a special hope of the monks to help others help others – through our projects to encourage others in their own sharing of time, talent, and treasure.The monks have charitable interests in many areas, both secular and religious, that form an integral whole for the needs of the human family. We divide these among care for the mind, care for the body and care for the soul.

Our goal is to provide young people with the tools, foundation and guidance to learn the spirit of benevolence and promote that spirit to "help others help others".

As students embark and then proceed through the project, they will develop a sense of the needs of others, learn how to develop a program to meet those needs, experience the inner satisfaction of helping others, and become proficient in sharing their experience - thereby passing on the enthusiasm and encouragement to other students, teachers , parents and their community.

In May of 2004, LaserMonks donated a sum of money to a group of students at St. Hubert's School, in Chanhassen, MN. With this money, the students were challenged to find a way to "help others, help others".

The students formed a business plan, and as a group chose a worthy charity - The Celiac Foundation - as they had a classmate who suffers with the condition. They donated their seed-money, and also garnered sponsors for a walk-a-thon benefit in which they all participated. By their participation, and their sponsorship, these kids truly "helped others, help others".

At the end of the program, the students explained how they came to choose the path they followed, and what the experience meant to them.

 
 
  Camp Heartland
A summer camp program that accepts children with AIDS that is equipped with state-of-the-art medical facilities able to handle the special needs of immuno-compromised campers; a summer camp program where children living with HIV/AIDS could step out of the shadows of secrecy into the light of openness and honesty.
  Storybook Farm
Located in the rich pastures of Opelika, Alabama, Storybook Farm, Inc. offers spiritual nourishment and emotional healing to children with disabilities, life-threatening diseases, or those who have suffered a loss.
  Angel Ranch
An emergency shelter in Oxford, Mississippi for abused, abandoned, and neglected children. Angel Ranch provides a safe and loving environment for children who require temporary placement while in the protective custody of the Mississippi State Department of Human Services.
  Alliance for International Monasticism
AIM USA is an organization composed of communities of men and women iwho follow the Rule of Benedict. AIM USA provides spiritual, educational, formation and building assistance to monasteries in developing countries to enable them to be centers of life for others.
  DISMAS Ministry
Supports the work of restorative justice for all those suffering the effects of crime: the victims and their loved ones, as well as prisoners, those released from prison and the entire community.
  Casa De Amparo
Provides safe emergency shelter and state-of-the-art treatment and intervention services for abused and neglected children throughout San Diego County. Casa consists of a 24-hour children's shelter (residential), a daily preschool child development center, the supervised family visitation services, and counseling program.
  St. Theresa's Orphanage, Croatia
Run by Carmelite nuns, houses 35 orphaned children who bear the emotional trauma of war and abandonment. The nuns care for the children and try to heal the wounds left over from the war.
  Solidarity Bridge
Uses the abundant goodwill and generosity of professionals to serve the needy. Their goal is to reach out to the poorest of the poor through medical, business and educational expertise , in a spirit of mutuality and solidarity.
  Monastic Interreligious Dialogue
Sponsored by North American Benedictine and Cistercian monasteries.ses the abundant goodwill and generosity of professionals to serve the needy. MID is committed to fostering interreligious and intermonastic dialogue between monastic and contemplative practitioners of diverse religious traditions.
  Tri-Thuc Moi School in Hue, Vietnam
Provides a two-year curriculum involving computers skills training for Microsoft Office Suite and basic computer programming. Through LaserMonks, the Cistercian Abbey, is the official sponsor for the United States.
  Children's Museum of La Crosse, WI
The Gertrude Salzer Gordon Children's Museum provides affordable and educational activities for children ages 12 and under and their adult companions. Three flavors of exhibits allow visitors to enjoy exciting, interactive adventures that stimulate wonder, exploration, and imagination about the world around them.
